STEM Saturdays

Being a Huskie Service Scholar is a both a huge responsibility and a great challenge. One must commit to the department one is working for and make sure to be as helpful to them as possible. Working for STEM Outreach is probably the best thing I’ve done in school so far. Not only are they people who are passionate about what they do, they are people who have a mission and work very hard towards it. I have learned many things by working for them and I have surprised myself with some of things I’ve been able to accomplish.

Something I am very proud of is of the great growth I have accomplished as a leader. Working at the STEM Saturday classes has given me the chance to work on my leadership skills and to serve as a role model for younger kids. When working at the STEM Saturday classes one must interact with the kids and guide them through their work. It is a very challenging task, especially when there are 16 kids to help but only two volunteers working, but it is extremely rewarding and I encourage anyone who wants to try something new to volunteer to work in some of them. Once the kids start recognizing you and show interest in your life and what you do, you’ll be hooked and you will want to do it again.
